Helotes is a vibrant community boasting a flourishing economy and a high quality of life. Located in northwest San Antonio and highway 1604 with easy access to other major highways,  Helotes is a town with a unique name. Pronounced Hel-oh-tis, it is derived from the Spanish word elote meaning “corn-on-the-cob” and was originally a stagecoach stop and post office for cowboys driving their cattle between San Antonio and Bandera. It evolved into a farming community and was then incorporated into San Antonio in 1981. The John T. Floore Country Store, a honky tonk dance floor built in 1946, still draws top talent such as Willie Nelson.
